Four Season Appeal
Bronzy cinnamon spring and fall foliage transforms to sparkling burgundy in summer. White spirea-like flowers in spring give way to red seed heads. Textured peeling bark supplies winter appeal as it reveals its layers of reddish to light brown inner bark. Best color in full sun. Physocarpus Ginger Wine® is a stunning backdrop in the border or a beautiful stand-alone specimen. Ninebark is extremely low-maintenance as its natural elegant habit requires little to no pruning. Provide plenty of space with good air circulation. Proven Winners® selections are trialed and tested to be colorful, long blooming, carefree and easy to grow.

Physocarpus General Information

Physocarpus are deciduous shrubs with arching branches. An easy-to-grow, all-purpose shrub will adapt to a wide variety of conditions. Spiraea-like flower clusters. Best color in full sun. Foliage may display green tones in partial shade and/or high temps. We grow under shade cloth, so give plant time to develop its colorful foliage. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Physocarpus Plant Care

Ninebark is best left unpruned to retain its naturally elegant habit; however; every few years or so in late winter, remove any old wood to the ground to encourage new shoots. Blooms on old wood, so shaping is best done just after flowering, and only if needed. Drought tolerant once established.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!

100% Guarantee

We offer a 100% guarantee for all our perennials to reach you in good condition and to grow. If you're not satisfied, we'll reship or refund immediately. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have questions or concerns—we share your passion for gardening and want your new plants to thrive in your border!
