Non-invasive Native Variety
This exotic-looking honeysuckle is a standout in any garden. As Lonicera Kintzley's Ghost develops flower buds, unique silvery blue, saucer-shaped bracts form around them giving the plant a striking resemblance to eucalyptus. The lightly fragrant, tubular yellow flowers attract pollinators, including hummingbirds. In fall, birds will snack on the glistening red berries. This North American native vining shrub is not invasive and offers tough landscape performance and a long blooming period. It's also drought tolerant, adaptable, to most soils and requires minimal pruning.

Lonicera General Information

Lonicera (Honeysuckle) have fragrant yellow flowers in spring, surrounded by silver-blue bracts, and red berries in late summer. A single plant can create a captivating vertical accent, while multiple plants can form an impressive screen. This vine is ideal for trellises or arbors, but also looks stunning cascading down from the top of a wall. Hummingbirds, along with many species of long-tongued butterflies, bees, and flies, pollinate the flowers. This fast-growing plant can provide shelter to nesting birds, which also eat the berries. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Lonicera Plant Care

Lonicera is easy to grow and requires minimal upkeep. Prefers a moist soil amended with organic matter, Honeysuckles will thrive with little care and can adapt to most soils. In hotter climates, most perform best in partial shade. All prefer their roots to be in shade. Lonicera has drought tolerance once established but prefers consistent watering. Train Lonicera on a sturdy structure to provide a solid foundation for the vine. Pruning is only necessary to maintain the desired size or to remove old wood. Prune immediately after flowering. Tangled or long branches hanging down can be pruned at any time.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
