Rapidly Spreading Ground Cover
A giant for this species, it parades more vigorous flowering with huskier blooms. This charmer still maintains the petite stature of Dwarf Crested Iris. Soft lavender-blue 3” wide flowers with golden crests provide a carpet of color each spring. Does best in some shade. Iris Powder Blue Giant will readily spread by branching rhizomes to form colonies of small sword-shaped leaves after the mid to late spring blooms have faded. A pleasing ground cover.

Iris General Information

An excellent plant for early spring bloom in a shaded area of the rock garden, perennial border or woodland garden. Foliage forms a nice ground cover for woodland areas. May also be used as a seasonal ground cover or edger. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Iris Plant Care

Iris cristata are best grown in organically rich, well-drained soils in part shade. Will tolerate close to full shade. Soil must be kept consistently moist if grown in full sun. A nice ground cover on well-drained banks or slopes. Grows from rhizomes and can be divided after flowering is done with a sharp spade or pull apart entangled rhizomes.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have questions or concerns—we share your passion for gardening and want your new plants to thrive in your border!
