Hydrangea General Information

Hydrangea are superb in the border for summer and autumn color. Provides winter interest too if flowers are left on. Great for indoor decorating as their flowers are easily dried. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Hydrangea Plant Care

A minimum of six hours of bright sun is recommended for all Smooth Hydrangeas. In hot climates, afternoon shade is a good idea, but some sun is still imperative for best performance. No need to prune - has a nice natural shape. Can be cut to 6" in early spring. Cutting down to a base framework in early spring, just as the new growth begins to appear on the stems, preserves the woody base while encouraging new growth for maximum blooms. If desired, fertilize in early spring with a granular fertilizer formulated for woody plants such as rose fertilizer.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
