Supports Local Pollinators
Ruggedly handsome with smoky burgundy-black foliage. Darkest foliage color is attained in full sun and is especially intense in spring and fall. Summer brings green leaves washed in soft red and bright yellow flower clusters to provide pleasing contrast. This durable North American native supports important pollinator populations. The positive attributes of Diervilla Kodiak® continue with its drought tolerance, deer resistance, ability to adapt to sun or shade and its wide variety of growing conditions.

Diervilla General Information

Bush Honeysuckle are dense multi-stemmed, deciduous shrubs. Drought tolerant, adaptable to a wide range of soils and tolerates dry shade. Proven Winners½ selections are trialed and tested to be colorful, long blooming, carefree and easy to grow. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Diervilla Plant Care

Diervilla rivularis are adaptable to most soils. Trim in early spring or if winter die-back occurs, can be pruned to about 12" to stimulate new young stems. A controlled-release fertilizer may be applied also if desired.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
