This silver-splashed, evergreen beauty brightens any shady niche. Large glossy heart-shaped foliage conceals unusual purple flowers tucked around the base of the plant in early spring. A showy, vigorous groundcover for shade. Asarum Spendens will spread with underground rhizomes. Thick leathery foliage will mound to a more lush appearance if planted near sidewalks or a barrier to restrict its spread.

Asarum General Information

Asarum is a low-maintenance plant great for shady borders or a woodland site. Will remain semi-evergreen in milder winters. Wild Ginger will spread quickly by underground rhizomes to form a thick mat. Ideal for smothering out any weeds. May overwinter in zone 5 with protection. Inconspicuous flowers are bell shaped an difficult to see without closely inspecting under the foliage. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Asarum is not picky about soil pH or type, but does prefer moist, slightly acidic organic soil in a well-drained site.
